Tony Romo suffers broken collarbone, will miss significant time

Even though the Dallas Cowboys improved to 2-0 on the season, there truly were no winners at The Linc on Sunday. Jason Garrett’s team will be without their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. 

Early in the third quarter of the Cowboys’ 20-10 victory, Tony Romo faced pressure from the Eagles defense when he couldn’t find any receivers open downfield. Rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks got pressure on Romo, who fumbled the ball (which the Eagles recovered). Hicks tackled Romo to the ground and Dallas’ signal caller fell awkwardly on his left shoulder. He left the game and never returned.

On the play, Romo suffered a broken collarbone for the second time in his career. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the injury generally keeps players off the field for 6-8 weeks. This is important to the Eagles because they will travel to Dallas six weeks from now.

For Dallas, it’s a major hurdle to overcome. Backup quarterback Brandon Weeden did come into the game and threw a touchdown pass. Here is what Romo told FOX’s Erin Andrews after the game:
