Three winter storms on way to Philly – but snow won't get too deep

Snow covers trees and the road on North 21st Street in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia on March 7, 2018.

Yet another quick-hitting winter storm is expected to move through the Philadelphia region on Saturday, dropping as much as a few inches of snow, according to AccuWeather.

It's the first of three systems in the coming days that look to bring some accumulating snow – though no snowmageddon is expected.

The small storm is seen moving across the Midwest and into the Mid-Atlantic before moving off the coast. A thin swath of snow – from Washington, D.C. to about the I-80 corridor – will likely begin to accumulate Saturday night and into Sunday morning, meteorologist Faith Ehrets wrote.

South of that swath of snow, a wintry mix – snow, sleet and freezing rain – is expected.

Snow totals will not be very robust, but roads will likely become slippery.

The National Weather Service, however, sees the low pressure system sliding to the south, with just a chance of snow in Philadelphia on Saturday morning, and any lingering precipitation turning to rain by the afternoon. It is forecasting an inch of snow in the westernmost suburbs, with perhaps a half-inch elsewhere.

Another weather system looks to impact the region from Sunday and Monday. Weather service forecasters said models are struggling to come into agreement, but one shows a primary low pressure system arriving from the west as a secondary low moves north off the Jersey Shore coast.

With low confidence in the forecast four days out, forecasters are saying there is a potential for accumulating snow – with snow, and then a rain/snow mix on Sunday, before a switchover to all snow Sunday night.

A third storm is predicted to develop over the central United States on Tuesday, and impact the Philly region on Tuesday night and Wednesday. One scenario is high pressure over Canada locking in colder air and leading to more accumulating snow - at least initially, forecasters said.

So, first, enjoy your mild Friday, with highs seen climbing well into the 50s.
