NBC New York reports that "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Teresa Giudice surrendered to federal authorities at 3 a.m. this morning, which officially starts her 15-month sentence. Giudice, along with her husband, Joe, pleaded guilty in March of last year to having hid assets from bankruptcy creditors, according to People. It had originally been reported that she may serve a 21- to 27-month sentence.
Her husband Joe will serve a separate and longer sentence -- 41 months, having additionally pleaded guilty to tax fraud. Joe Giudice additionally pleaded guilty to tax fraud. He may yet be deported back to Italy (he came to the United States as a 1-year-old), as he is not a U.S. citizen; though, NorthJersey.com reports that the process will likely take years.
Anyone wondering what she might be facing in prison can check out this nifty prison preview, courtesy of People. The Federal Correction Institution in Connecticut, which she reportedly headed to this morning, is the same one Netflix's hit comedy series "Orange is the New Black" is based off of. (What we wouldn't give to be a fly on those walls.)
Reality just got a lot more ... well, real for the Giudices.
