The deadline to apply has passed and Temple University has set another record for prospective students, the school said.
On Friday, Temple announced that 36,840 students applied to become a freshman for the upcoming school year, marking the fourth consecutive year that number has increased. March 1 was the last day to apply.
School officials credit Temple's academic reputation, athletic success and campus improvements for driving interest in the university.

"Although we are still early in the admissions process, the academic strength and diversity of our admitted students gives me confidence that we are poised to welcome an outstanding Class of 2021 to Temple and to Philadelphia,” said Richard M. Englert, the school's president.
In 2015, Temple became one of the first schools to partner with BuzzFeed and its sponsored content has significantly raised awareness of the university.
One year later, that strategy helped the school set its previous record of 34,504 freshman applications.
Temple officials hope the school's commitment to affordability and diversity continue to expand the university’s appeal.
Currently, Temple enrolls about 5,100 freshmen each year.
