Temple University has opened up applications for students who desire to live in gender-inclusive, on-campus housing beginning in the fall 2017 semester.
The move delivers on the findings of several surveys and focus groups that showed growing interest among the student population in such an housing option.
The new offering will enable students to opt in to sharing a campus suite or apartment that with other students regardless of biological sex, gender expression, gender identity or sexual orientation.

“We are proud to offer gender-inclusive housing as part of Temple’s ongoing commitment to developing a campus community that is welcoming and inclusive,” Stephanie Ives, associate vice president and dean of students, told Temple Now. “This new housing option helps address student demand for more inclusive on-campus housing.”
Students who apply for a gender-inclusive assignment through the university's online housing selection application must expressly state their desire for such an assignment.
First-year students will be placed at Temple's White and 1940 residence halls. Returning upper-class students will be offered gender-inclusive options at select locations in Morgan North and the Temple Towers residences. Graduate students will be have options in the Podiatry residence hall. Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
