In January, 11 teenagers were invited by One River School of Art + Design to participate in a six-month studio residency program in Englewood, New Jersey. The artists, age 12-17, were chosen from a pool of 300 and provided with a studio, unlimited materials and access to art educators.
Their task was to each create a body of artwork to be displayed during an exhibition tour slated for stops in Boston, Philadelphia and New York. On Nov. 5, the pop-up art exhibit will be at Philly's Savery Gallery for one night only.
One River School founder Matt Ross, who was also the former founding CEO of School of Rock, set out to create an innovative art school concept.
"Established in 2012, the school’s innovative art programs and exhibits introduce suburban kids and adults to the kinds of exceptional, creative learning experiences otherwise only available in major cities," according to a press release.
The "Art Effect Tour" was then created to motive and challenge young artists to "make the best artwork of their lives," according to Ross.
The work by the group of teenage artists will be on display from 5-8 p.m. at the Savery Gallery. The event is free to attend but an RSVP is recommended.
