Celebrate a Swedish tradition: Waffle Day

A misunderstanding led to the creation of the holiday

The American Swedish Historical Museum, the oldest of its kind in the United States, is celebrating a delicious part of Swedish culture on Saturday, March 26.

Each year, Swedes pull out the waffle iron to make the breakfast food. Traditionally, their waffles are served with a jam and light whipped cream.

Waffles with strawberry jam, whipped cream and coffee will be served at the American Swedish Historical Museum on Pattison Avenue. Those who stop in for brunch will learn how a misunderstanding led to Swedish Waffle Day.

Waffle Day in the United States won't be nationally celebrated until August, so use the Swedish tradition as an excuse to celebrate early.
