Two men were arrested after they allegedly led police on a wild chase Tuesday night in Northeast Philadelphia, NBC10 reports.
The incident started shortly before 9 p.m. on Cottman and Torresdale avenues.
Investigators said 15th District narcotics officers approached a 51-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, who were suspects in a drug transaction, inside a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis.
When police announced an arrest, the 51-year-old man allegedly put the car in reverse and struck an unattended parked car before trying to run over a narcotics officer. The officer was able to jump out of the way and avoided being struck, police said.
The Marquis went into a nearby playground and continued to travel erratically until a right front tire blew out, police said. As police officers continued to pursue, the men began throwing crack cocaine out of the vehicle, officials said.
The vehicle finally pulled over on the 7600 block of Torresdale Ave. The driver and passenger doors opened, but the 51-year-old suddenly drove off again, police said. The Marquis struck more police vehicles as the chase continued, police said.
The suspect stopped the vehicle again on the 7900 block of Torresdale Ave., and both men fled on foot through a vacant lot, investigators said. Investigators said they were apprehended and were found in possession of pills and crack cocaine.
They were charged with possession of narcotics. The 51-year-old suspect was also charged with eluding police and aggravated assault.
