A suspect remains on the loose after a police chase, crash and carjacking in South Philadelphia early Friday morning, 6ABC reports.
Around 12:30 a.m., police were in pursuit of a black Mustang they say was running stop signs and driving erratically on the 1900 block of Camac St.
According to police, the driver sped off and drove several blocks before crashing into two parked cars. Officers say they saw the man then get out of the car and run to the nearest vehicle, a Nissan with two men and two women in their 20s inside.
With police watching, authorities say the man forced the driver to get out of the car. When the front seat passenger got out to help, police say the suspect drove off with the women in the back seat.
Police lost sight of the suspect after a few blocks. According to the women, the suspect drove to Fifth and Shunk streets before ditching the car and fleeing on foot.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said the suspect now faces more charges.
"Now there will be additional charges of kidnapping because after carjacking the vehicle, he took off with two females in the back seat," Small told 6ABC. "He definitely is facing additional charges of kidnapping in addition to carjacking and robbery."
Police say they believe they know the suspect's identity after finding an inmate ID card that matches the description of the suspect in the Mustang.
The incident is under investigation.
