New Jersey voters are so fed up with the Republican and Democratic parties that many of them find the thought of taking a cold shower on a wintry day more appealing, according to a new poll published Wednesday.
The survey from Fairleigh Dickinson University found that 48 percent of those surveyed, 14 percent of whom identified as Republicans, said they find the cold shower more appealing than the Republican Party, while 43 percent said the same about the Democratic Party.
Researchers at the university also found that just 32 percent of those surveyed have a favorable view of the Republican Party while 48 percent have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party.
“New Jersey Republicans have traditionally been more in the ideologically conservative wing of the party,” Dan Cassino, a professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson and an analyst for the poll, said in a statement. “So it’s not surprising that the movement towards Trump, who’s not traditionally conservative, would alienate some of the New Jersey GOP.”
The survey also showed massive polarization between the two parties in the Garden State. Sixty percent of Democrats said that they think that "Republicans are misguided and a threat to the nation's well-being" with 65 percent of those who identified as Republican in the poll saying the same about their opponents.
The poll was conducted between Nov. 30 and Dec. 4 with more than 800 registered voters in the state via phone.
