The Delaware Valley Stroke Council is expecting more than 1,000 participants for its 21st Annual Dr. Howard Mazer Strides for Stroke Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, June 7. The run, which begins along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway before heading down MLK Drive, aims to raise awareness for stroke, the fifth leading cause of death and number one cause of adult disability.
According to the DVSC, four out of five families will be affected by stroke. That's why proceeds from the 5K will be used by the DVSC to educate local communities on recognizing the symptoms of stroke and to ensure local health care centers give patients up-to-date care.
Parx Casino, Philly Pretzel Factory, Trader Joe’s, ShopRite and other local businesses and organizations will be present at the run's vendor alley with refreshments and giveaway opportunities. Mike Missanelli, of 97.5 The Fanatic, is this year’s celebrity host and Paul Dunn of Level 1 Fitness and DJ Steve Hawk of EMS Entertainment and 92.5 XTU will get the crowd going before the race.
