Glen Straub, the new owner of the closed Revel casino and resorts, said Tuesday that the property's gambling attractions won't be reopening this summer.
The Courier-Post reports that Straub made his comments after a hearing Tuesday when he and energy provider ACR agreed to continue providing temporary electrical service to the building to comply with fire and safety hazards.
Straub, who is seeking another company to provide the building's power due to a legal struggle with ACR, said that a casino would definitely not open this summer and the building's restaurants and nightclubs probably won't open either.
That struggle is over the equipment in the building used to operate and provide power. The Press of Atlantic City reports that while Straub's legal representation claims the equipment was bought by his company when they acquired it in a bankruptcy sale, ACR says they own the nearly $40 million in machinery that connects the building to their power plant.
Power was shut off by ACR shortly after Straub purchased the property in April, with the energy provider saying that Straub was responsible for thousands of dollars in fines for lack of water and electricity while Straub argued ACR should pay them.
It was restored after a temporary agreement, similar to the one made Tuesday, was reached. Straub has since continued to look for an alternate energy provider to power his plans to restore the resort and casino while ACR holds the legal right to challenge any such plans.
