South Philly String Band takes home first place at 2016 Mummers Parade

Avalon disqualified because of use of tarp

The South Philadelphia String Band took home the coveted first place honor in the string band category for the 2016 Mummers Parade.

The results were posted on PHL17's website Friday night. South Philly took home the top spot, beating out the Joseph A. Ferko band and Fralinger, who came in second and third respectively. Fralinger came in first last year.

Avalon was disqualified from taking home first place because of the use of a blue tarp, according to Mr. Mummer. The band took the disqualification in stride, according to their Twitter account:

Taking home the prize for top string band captain was John Baron of Hegeman. Denny Palandro from South Philly came in second place and Tom Robison was third.
