A South Philadelphia community group is rallying to fulfill a last-minute holiday wish list for a local girl with cancer and her family.
According to a message posted over the weekend on the Facebook page Taking Our South Philadelphia Streets Back, the family has four children, ages 8, 9, 10 and 17, and is facing a slew of hardships, headed by the 10-year-old’s recent cancer diagnosis.
The child, Lexi McAlonan, is currently undergoing treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for stage 4 lymphoblastic lymphoma, and her holiday wish is to be visited in the hospital by Wonder Woman, according to the post.
Based on discussions on the Facebook page, it looks like Lexi will get that wish, as one person has offered up a Wonder Woman costume and another is willing to dress the part during a visit to the hospital.
The last part of fulfilling the family's wish is to collect donations to purchase four mini iPads, one for each of the children.
Samantha Regalbuto, founder of the Facebook group and the subgroup, Making a South Philadelphia Christmas Wish, said on Tuesday that she has set up a bank account for the family and donations can be sent or dropped off directly to her, which can be coordinated by reaching out to her directly at 267-441-6010.
