Sixteen towns in South Jersey are asking the state to investigate Verizon over chronic issues with phone and Internet service, Newsworks reported.
The towns in Cumberland, Atlantic, Salem and Gloucester counties sent a petition to the state Board of Public Utilities last week.
The petition accuses the telecommunications company of allowing its old copper-wire landlines in parts of South Jersey to deteriorate, causing outages and poor reception. It also criticized Verizon for not extending its fiber-optic service FiOS to more rural areas.
Verizon denied the allegations, saying that it has invested more than $4 billion in infrastructure across the state over the past five years.
