South Jersey assault now a homicide after man dies from injuries

Victim was found bloodied and beaten in Pleasantville home

An assault in Pleasantville, New Jersey, is now being classified as a homicide case after one of the victims died from his injuries.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says that 30-year-old Jahlil Hunter passed away Sunday after he and another woman, 22-year-old Ebony Harris, were attacked inside their home 11 days earlier.

The incident occurred on Dec. 23, authorities say, when police responded to a report of two people incapacitated inside the residence located on the 100 block of Greenfield Avenue.

Responding personnel found Hunter and Harris bleeding and suffering from significant physical trauma.

Both were rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Harris was transferred to Cooper Hospital where she remains in critical care.

Hunter was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. Sunday. His family has been notified.

An autopsy performed by the New Jersey Southern Regional State Medical Examiner’s Office determined Hunter's cause of death to be by multiple blunt force injuries to the head, and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666 or the Pleasantville Police Department at (609) 641-6100.
