Drivers are told to take caution.

Conditions on area roadways are worsening as snow falls in Philadelphia and South Jersey.

PennDOT reports that I-95, I-676 and the Roosevelt Boulevard are wet but freezing in places.

Dozens of schools in the area closed early this afternoon as an Alberta Clipper bears down on the Delaware Valley.

The snow could be heavy during the early evening before tapering off by mid-evening. Forecasters say snow accumulations will be between 1-3 inches. Some sleet may mix in for some locations.

The snow and ice is causing arriving flights to be delayed an average of 1 hour and 14 minutes, the Philadelphia International Airport tweeted. Check flight status with your airline or call 1.800.PHL. GATE or visit PHL.org.

Philadelphia looks likely to see less than 2 inches of snow, while towns in the northern suburbs, like Doylestown in Bucks County, should only see less than an inch-and-a-half.

Still, the combination of sleet and snow will slicken many roads in time for the evening commute, and heavier bands of snow will compromise motorists' visibility. Motorists are advised to use caution.
