Small boat sinks in Delaware River, workers rescued by nearby barge

Victims treated for hypothermia as Burlington City Police, Coast Guard investigate

A pair of workers for Paulsboro-based Miller Environmental Group are recovering Sunday after their boat sank overnight in the Delaware River near the Burlington Bristol Bridge.

Authorities say the boat began to sink before 2 a.m. and the workers, a 34-year-old Philadelphia man and a 55-year-old West Deptford man, jumped overboard when it became clear the boat would be submerged, 6 ABC reports.

The men were rescued by several workers on a nearby barge, who were able to respond quickly and pull them to safety. They were taken to a facility in Burlington and later transferred by medics to an area hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

Both men are expected to fully recover.

It was not immediately known what caused the boat to sink. The incident is under investigation by Burlington City Police and the New Jersey Coast Guard.
