Sly Fox Brewing Company and Schuylkill River Heritage Area teamed up for a weekend focused on celebrating the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT). Beginning April 22 -- Earth Day -- there will be cleanup projects, fitness events and a party. Registration for the weekend is now open.
To kick off the weekend, there will be a trail cleanup on the Pottstown section of the SRT on Friday from 5-7 p.m. There will also be two other trail cleanup events, for different areas along the trail, scheduled over the weekend. Sign up to volunteer.
On Saturday, the fitness activities will begin. Participants can choose to kayak, run or bike to St. Michael's Field in Mont Clare, Montgomery County, for a celebratory party.
Those who choose kayaking will join a group hosted by Take It Outdoors Adventures to float down the Schuylkill River to Lock 60 in Mont Clare. BYOK (bring your own kayak) or rent one for an additional $40, on top of the $40 registration fee.
As for cyclists, the meet-up will be at the Philadelphia Museum of Art before traveling to Mont Clare. Additional information on the course is not yet available.
Runners have two options: solo run or relay race. The Schuylkill River Run is a 50-kilometer race that starts and ends at Saint Michael's Park. Teams can consist of three to six participants.
The course will follow the SRT through Montgomery County and the Valley Forge National Park to Conshohocken, where it will loop around at the Conshohocken Brewing Company.
At the finish line, each runner receives one post race Sly Fox SRT Ale.
The Sly Fox "Ale for the Trail" benefits and celebrates the SRT. It will be available at the Mont Clare after-party beginning at 3 p.m.
There will be live music by Whiskeyhickon Boys and Hoots and Hellmouth, as well as food from the Sunflower Food Truck.
