Sixers forward KJ Martin, who has started each of the last four games, suffered a stress reaction in his left foot during Monday night's win over the San Antonio Spurs, the team said Tuesday afternoon. Martin, 23, will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks. Martin left Monday's game due to what the team at first called "soreness."
This is another tough blow for a Sixers team which has continually failed to stay healthy, and Martin himself, who has come on strong in recent weeks as he makes a case against the team trading him. Martin, who is eligible to be traded beginning on Jan. 15, 2025, has a non-guaranteed salary for 2025-26 in a contract crafted to make him an enticing trade piece.
However, with his terrific defense across multiple positions, rebounding and transition scoring, Martin has made himself a key cog in Sixers head coach Nick Nurse's rotation, calling into question whether he should be traded at all.
Martin, of course, is listed as out for the Sixers' road battle against the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day Wednesday, alongside rookie guard Jared McCain, who remains out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair his left meniscus.
Also on the team's initial injury report: Eric Gordon, who is probable after missing Monday's game following oral surgery, and Andre Drummond, who is questionable with a left toe sprain. Like Martin, Drummond was ruled out of the remainder of Monday's game in the second half.
