The Sixers have issued their first update on rookie guard Jared McCain since he underwent meniscus surgery on Dec. 17.

Sixers rookie guard Jared McCain will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after undergoing left meniscus surgery last month, the Sixers announced Thursday evening.

"Jared McCain was reviewed today by the surgeon who performed surgery on his left knee on Dec. 17," the team's statement read. "He is progressing well and will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Further updates on his progress will be provided as appropriate."

McCain, 20, starred early in his rookie NBA campaign after being selected with the No. 16 overall selection out of Duke in last June's NBA Draft. In 23 games (eight starts), McCain averaged 15.3 points in 25.7 minutes per game, flashing signs of stardom as a brilliant offensive shot-maker.

McCain was revealed to have a torn meniscus on Dec. 14, and it became increasingly evident that a return later in the season was unlikely. Now, the Sixers have confirmed that McCain's rookie season is over.
