Why should you be pumped for the upcoming Sixers season? Because we're Philadelphia, and we kicked the British Empire's ass.
Ok, not exactly. Yet that's sort of the message delivered in the new hype video released by the Sixers' media team Monday, which relies on the history of the team and the city, as well as the spirit of the underdog, to try and sell fans on the team.
"Every fight has an underdog, and they can't stop 20,478 of us," the narrator says, referencing the seating capacity of the Wells Fargo Center. Watch the video here:
The Sixers probably will have another uphill battle from a public relations stance this season.
Fans can be excited about rookie center Jahlil Okafor and his offensive abilities, the continued development of defensive stalwart Nerlens Noel, and some young additions like sharpshooter Nik Stauskas (who struggled last year with a tumultuous Kings team in Sacremento).
Yet they most likely don't have the talent to be very competitive in the NBA, and Sixers faithful will be eyeing the team's large number of potential ping pong balls for the 2016 draft.
On top of that, Joel Embiid will miss another season after getting a second surgery on his foot and the team recently lost its reliable and talented media point man Max Rappaport.
Guys, it is with bittersweet emotions that I announce that this week will be my last with the Sixers.
