Sixers fans did not take the Ben Simmons injury news very well

When my roommate texted me the initial news of Sixers number one pick Ben Simmons' foot injury, I – after only glancing at some headlines — texted back that it was only a rolled ankle. "Ok thank God," he responded, prematurely relieved by the false hope I had instilled in him.

That turned out to be wrong, as the news then broke that Simmons had actually suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot during a scrimmage Friday. There's no official timetable for his return yet, but estimates based on the injury have him sidelined for about 8 weeks.

While that would mean Simmons should be back shortly into the 2016-17 season, a fan base that has endured three years of brutal losing — as well as injuries keeping its team's potential stars sidelined for extended periods of time — did not take the news well.
