While hope remains distant in the NBA standings, the team has pledged to help a Camden youth organization achieve its own hoop dreams by granting participation in the "Court of Dreams" event on March 13.
The Courier-Post reports that the Sixers will assist in the fundraising efforts of the Rebirth of Camden Foundation, which seeks to build the city's youth into future leaders. Its founder, Tyheem Baker, had put down a deposit of $2,900 against the $15,000 needed to win basketball jerseys, tickets, concourse signage, and half the proceeds of a 50/50 raffle to be held that night.
"When the Sixers learned that Rebirth of Camden was struggling with their fundraising efforts, we immediately offered our support and recommended that Rebirth participate in all elements of the evening without further financial obligation," Lara Price, the team's executive vice president of business operations, told the Courier-Post in an email.
Rebirth of Camden aims to be named "Nonprofit of the Night" at the March 13 matchup between the Sixers and the Sacramento Kings.
For the foundation's boys, ages 8 to 12, the night offers a chance to play in a pregame scrimmage at the Wells Fargo Center and run through a "High Five Tunnel" with the pros before tip off.
With the Sixers already planning a new practice facility in Camden, the decision reinforces the organization's commitment to communities across the region.
