The Sixers announced on Tuesday that Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, the 24th overall pick in last June’s draft, has been assigned to their D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.
Luwawu-Cabarrot has mainly received time in mop-up duty so far this season. In seven games, he is averaging 1.1 points and 0.4 rebounds in 4.6 minutes. *Per-36 minutes, those numbers turn out to be 9.0 points and 3.4 rebounds.
* No, that sentence wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.
More than anything, Luwawu-Cabarrot needs regular playing time. And as some predicted before the season, there was a chance that the Frenchman might get extended minutes in the D-League if he couldn’t crack the rotation.
Yesterday, the Sixers also assigned guard Jerryd Bayless to the Sevens. The 28-year-old veteran has still yet to play a game this season, as he’s still battling a wrist injury. With the Sixers playing four games this week and the Sevens off until Friday, that move was likely intended to give Bayless a place to work out or practice in a limited role.
The Sevens, 1-0 on the young season, continue their season this weekend in a couple of D-League pit stops just a tad different from Philly: Des Moines and Sioux Falls.
