Philadelphia's Civic Flag.

Did you know the Philadelphia flag was the nation's first official city flag, and that it is now 120 years old? Well, the Partners for Civic Pride sure do, and they're getting ready to celebrate Philadelphia Flag Day on Friday, March 27.

From noon to 2 p.m., PFCP will hang out with the city of Philadelphia and ARAMARK on the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps for a BYO lunch event. Honoring the azure blue and golden yellow flag, PFCP will highlight its 2015 "Year of the Philly Flag" campaign.

The flag's colors and the two female figures featured in its seal represent hope, prosperity, peace and justice. The phrase "Philadelphia Maneto," which means "Let Brotherly Love Continue," marks the flag. Taking cues from this symbolism, the PFCP will also use this annual event to honor recipients of the Philadelphia Maneto Awards, given to those who exemplify the flag's principals.

This year's honorees include Dr. Audrey Evans, founder of the first Ronald McDonald House; the Taney Dragons; Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey; Ajay K. Raju of Dilworth Paxson and The Germination Project; philanthropist H. F. Lenfest and Henry C. McCook, the designer of the original flag.

While friends and neighbors eat bagged lunches and wear the flag's colors, the PFCP will raise the historic flag on the museum steps and hand out free flags while supplies last.

As the Love Run Weekend also begins Friday, the first-place winner of Sunday's marathon will receive the "First Flag of Love," and the PFCP encourages spectators to wear blue and gold for the event.
