American Dreaming, a digital hub for entrepreneurs and artists, is launching a series of events called Passion Share where successful local entrepreneurs teach others a technical aspect of their business. The first of this series is a sewing class with Philly-based designer Brittany DeShields.

American Dreaming will host DeShields for a two-day workshop Thursday, Jan. 22, and Friday, Jan. 23, from 7-9 p.m. each night. Attendees will learn how to use a sewing machine; all about the different tools and notions one uses to sew; how to measure, cut and make a pattern; and how to sew a simple dress.

Fabric and pattern paper will be provided. For those without a sewing machine, rentals will be available for an additional cost.

DeShields is a self-taught seamstress who launched her first ready-to-wear line, B. Des, in 2008. Along with its sister line, the Brittany DeShields Collection, DeShields' designs have grown in popularity since her launch. Celebrities like Mya have even been spotted wearing her dresses.

This is a great course for beginners and intermediate sewers who want to brush up on their skills and learn from an inspiring designer, to boot!
