SEPTA's Regional Rail trains resumed service -- though there are some residual delays -- after a water main broke Thursday at 18th Street and JFK Boulevard around lunch time.

According to SEPTA spokesperson Heather Redfern, a water main broke near a construction zone for Comcast's new Innovation and Technology Center, that she said, allowed water to flood onto SEPTA's Regional Rail tracks three and four.

The water valve was shut off by the Philadelphia Water Department, she said, but, all Regional Rail trains heading through Center City needed to be rerouted along tracks one and two for about an hour.

"This caused a backup with any trains coming through Center City," she said.

As of 1 p.m., all of the tracks were operational, she said.

There is currently some delay as trains return to normal operation.

Redfern said that riders should expect delays of about 20 minutes on Regional Rail lines, but she expected the rail lines to return to normal operation by about 1:30 p.m.
