Sentencing is set Friday for Griffin Campbell, the demolition contractor at the site of the deadly 2013 Center City building collapse at 22nd and Market streets, CBSPhilly reports.
In October, Campbell was convicted on six counts of involuntary manslaughter and other charges resulting from the building collapse, which claimed the lives of six people.
According to CBSPhilly, prosecutors say Campbell “pulled out the guts and spine of the building, destabilizing it by talking out floors and joists,” which led to its collapse onto a neighboring Salvation Army Thrift Store, trapping several people under rubble and killing six.
A pre-sentencing memo by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office seeks a 25- to 50-year prison sentence for Campbell, CBSPhilly reports.
Also charged was heavy equipment operator Sean Benschop, who accepted a plea arrangement to serve no more than 20 years in prison.
Campbell rejected the same deal.
