The Chemical Heritage Foundation, the Geographical Society and the Monell Chemical Senses Center are trying to spice up your life. The three organizations have teamed up to host a lecture presentation and reception called "The Life of Spice!" which explores the history and science behind our favorite smells and flavors.

At the gathering, which takes place April 16, food historian Cynthia Clampitt will discuss where spices come from and how they travel all over the world. Then Monell's Gary Beauchamp will delve into the science behind spice. Finally, Marianne Gillette of McCormick Spice Company will chat about how spices mix with cuisine.

After you learn the ins and outs of the spice world, you'll get to taste and smell the flavors with a reception catered by Feastivities. The menu will be filled with ginger, cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, turmeric and more. Scientists will also do demonstrations on flavor and the senses.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that the Spice Girls will be in attendance.
