A boy became engulfed in sand Monday when a hole he was digging collapsed on him.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. at a beach in Surf City, New Jersey. The 12-year-old boy was digging when all of a sudden the sand caved in on him.
The boy was quickly pulled out of the sand by bystanders and lifeguards. He started breathing after a lifeguard performed CPR and was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
The reason for the sand collapse is still an unknown, according to 6 ABC. Holes are reportedly required to be no deeper than one foot in Surf City.
