With another snowstorm hitting the region, public works officials in Pottstown and other Montgomery County municipalities have a diminished supply of road salt to attack the storm.
“We had word that it arrived overnight, but it’ll take time for distribution. Within the next five to seven days, it should be flowing again,” said Doug Yerger, director of public works for Pottstown. “But everybody is on the low side right now. Nobody has much salt.”
Ironically, Mother Nature may help fix the situation she created. With the forecast calling for several inches of snow on Thursday, municipalities should be able to plow roads this time instead of relying on salt, which is the prescribed course of action for snowfalls of less than an inch.
“If it turns into ice, we don’t have enough salt,” Yerger told The Mercury.
