Despite Philadelphia ranking 208th in the state when it comes to being a safe place to live, some of the safest towns are just a step away.
Movoto Real Estate's annual list of the 50 safest places in the state include two towns in Bucks County and one each in Chester, Montgomery and Delaware counties in the top 10.
Movoto's strategy for the list was to analyze the FBI Uniform Crime Report from 2013 for the number of reported murders, violent crimes, property crimes and total crimes in populations over 10,000.
Upper Providence, in Delaware County, was named the safest place in Pennsylvania. According to Movoto, there were only 27 total crimes in Upper Providence during 2013. That means that "residents had just a 1 in 382 chance of being the victim of a crime."
Buckingham Township of Bucks County is No. 2, followed by Upper Uwchlan Township of Chester County. Northampton of Bucks County is No.5, while Lower Salford Township in Montgomery County is number six.
Each of the top 10 towns had zero reported murders in 2013.
Many other Delaware, Montgomery and Bucks county towns ranked in the list's top 15 safest towns — including Newtown Township, Doylestown Township, New Hanover Township and Upper Providence Township.
