European airline Ryanair announced plans to offer cheap transatlantic flights by 2020, with fares starting as low as $15! The catch? Taxes and service fees will add a few hundred bucks to the bottom line.
Even so, that kind of pricing for international flights is absurd. The Irish airline is currently in talks with manufacturers to secure a long-haul fleet that could eventually offer flights to and from as many as 14 U.S. and European cities.
If Ryanair can acquire the fleet, it would join Norwegian Air and WOW Air in an attempt to disrupt a pricey market dominated by the major carriers. Similar efforts in the past have fallen flat, but with several airlines making a push to undercut high prices, careful planning and sky high demand could bring about better results.
