Rutgers University students will have an opportunity to boost their GPA while working on a tan this summer thanks to a new program offering courses in Atlantic City, Avalon, Cape May and Point Pleasant Beach.
The decision to establish the program, ‘RU at the Shore,’ is the result of a recent survey completed by 4,500 students that found about 1,200 of them planned to spend time at the shore this summer and would be interested in some classes there, according to The Press of Atlantic City.
The college’s summer session at the shore will run from June 22 to July 17, Elizabeth Beasley, the director of the Rutgers-New Brunswick Summer Session and Special Projects, told The AC Press.
The course offerings will vary and include a class on oceanography and another on the history of the Jersey Shore, with tuition ranging from $353 to $407 per credit, with a $158.25 registration fee.
Rutgers will also offer a series of hybrid courses, in which students will mostly work independently rather than having to report to a classroom.
The Rutgers survey found that 60 percent of respondents preferred the hybrid course, with 23 percent favoring an in-class format and 16 percent choosing totally online courses.
