MOM's Organic Market has sponsored two fun runs just for kids, half a mile for ages 6 to 12 and a 250 yard dash for those 5 and under. Walkers can take a 3K stroll and runners can try the flat, scenic 5K course up MLK Drive. New this year, a 10K long distance run will be available thanks to Philadelphia Insurance Companies.
Along the museum steps, exhibitors will be on hand for pre- and post-race activities. Yoga instructor and marathon runner Patricia Blumenauer will lead runners in pre-race stretches. Runners can enjoy a free Victory beer or a cup of Joe Coffee after the race and vegetarian pitas and smoothies will be available. Kids will have fun with environmentally friendly make-and-take crafts and a rock wall, too.
All proceeds from the race go toward the Clean Air Council, which has been fighting to improve air quality for 45 years. Runners can make a donation when they register and/or fundraise prior to the race.
Of course, the Run for Clean Air is also a green event. The T-shirts are made from recycled materials, the event is powered with solar energy, run bibs are made from seeded paper, registration is paperless and there's even a valet for participants who bike to the race.
