Roughly one in five Americans save none of their income, according to a recent report by Bankrate.
The report indicates that about half of Americans save no more than 5 percent of their incomes and that those in the middle class are the best savers.

More than one-third (35 percent) of households with annual income between $50,000 and $74,999 are saving more than 10 percent of their incomes, a rate that outpaces even the highest-income households.
"This proves the old adage that what counts isn't how much you make, but how much you have left over," Greg McBride, Bankrate.com's chief financial analyst, said in a statement.
Workers in the western United States are saving more than those elsewhere around the country, with 31 percent saving more than 10 percent of their incomes, compared with just 20 percent of southerners.
But 19 percent of westerners aren't saving anything, which is worse than all other regions.
