Riversharks stadium to be bought

Camden County Improvement Authority to gain title of Campbell Field

Campbell Field, a 6,700 seat stadium that is home to the Riversharks minor-league baseball team, will be purchased by the Camden County Improvement Authority for $3.5 million, according to a press release issued Thursday.

The stadium has had its share of legal troubles and the agreed upon sale price is a fraction of the original construction cost of about $20 million in 2001.

“This critical regional waterfront asset will be redeveloped and given a new lease on life,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli in a statement. “This transaction ensures baseball will continue to be played in Camden for many seasons to come in a more enhanced setting.”

The agreement is expected to be finalized in three to four months.

The improvement authority reached the agreement with Rutgers University and the building's senior lender, Santander Bank.
