Philadelphia police have a suspect in custody after a 14-year-old girl was shot in the face Monday morning in Rhawnhurst, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. in the 2000 block of Glendale Avenue, according to investigators.

Officials said the girl was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said the shooting appeared to be accidental. A gun was recovered and police referred to person in custody as a suspect.

A separate incident overnight Monday left a 16-year-old girl critically injured in Kingsessing in Southwest Philly. That girl suffered gunshot wounds to the neck, left ear, left hand and left wrist. No weapons were recovered and police do not have a suspect in that case.

The two incidents on Monday continue a disturbing pattern of teen violence involving guns.

Seventeen-year-old rapper Tauhid "Tata Chapo" Collins was fatally shot Friday night in Southwest Philadelphia. After a vigil in his memory, an unidentified 18-year-old was fatally shot just two blocks away from the first incident. It wasn't yet clear whether the two shootings were connected.

Authorities said the shooting Monday in Rhawnhurst occurred while the teenagers were home from school for Presidents Day. No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon.
