Atlantic City will begin imposing fines on the new owner of Revel Casino for the building's lack of water and electricity, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
Florida developer Glen Straub, whose purchase of Revel for $82 million was approved earlier this month, will face a $10,000 fine on Thursday and a $5,000 fine each day after that until water and power are restored.
Not only does the lack of utilities break New Jersey fire regulations, but firefighters warned earlier this year that fighting a blaze in a structure that big without water and electricity would be near-impossible.
The fines come after the energy provider for Revel, ACR Energy, cut off services after warning that they would if Straub didn't start paying for them. Straub had argued that ACR should be responsible for the fines.
Representatives for Straub say they are bringing in portable generators to restore power and are working as quickly as possible. Officials have also notified the air traffic control tower at Atlantic City International Airport about Revel being without lights, as the tower's height warrants notice for pilots.
