Convicted serial killer Charles Manson was reportedly removed from prison to be hospitalized for medical treatment.
TMZ reports that Manson, 82, was transported Tuesday from Corcoran State Prison in California to a hospital approximately one hour away in Bakersfield. He is receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Manson, who was the leader of the Manson Family, is currently serving nine life sentences for conspiring to murder seven people, including actress Sharon Tate, in Los Angeles over a two-night span in 1969.
Two years later, Manson was found guilty and initially sentenced to death, but the sentence was reduced to life in prison when the state abolished the death penalty.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Manson is seriously ill, but a spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation would not disclose specific information.
