Temple University has picked a new head coach after the departure of Matt Rhule, ESPN reports.
The Owls' new coach will be University of Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins, according to the network. Per ESPN:
Collins has been a defensive coordinator for the past seven seasons combined at Florida (2015-16), Mississippi State (2011-14) and Florida International (2010). He had just completed the second year of a three-year deal with the Gators.
Collins is the fourth consecutive Temple coach that had no previous head coaching experience before taking over the Owls. The previous three Temple coaches were Rhule, Steve Addazio and Al Golden.
Last week, Rhule left Temple to take the head coaching job at Baylor. His decision came after the Owls had finished 10-3 and won a conference championship for the first time since 1967.
Collins' defenses with Florida have ranked sixth and seventh nationally during his two-year stint with the Gators, ESPN notes.
