Earlier this morning, we didn’t receive the Woj-est of Wojbombs, but nevertheless, Adrian Wojnarowski broke some news about the Philadelphia 76ers:
The Philadelphia 76ers promoted executive Brandon Williams to the newly created position of chief of staff, reporting to general manager Sam Hinkie, league sources told The Vertical.
In Williams' new role, he’ll have broader oversight on matters that include player development, agent relations and recruiting. Sixers chairman Jerry Colangelo has to sign off on organizational moves involving basketball operations.
Williams has been in the organization since 2013, and from what Woj is reporting, he will continue on in his role as general manager of the Delaware 87ers. Two of Williams’ duties that were laid out in the article (agent relations, recruiting) were generally thought to be areas that Jerry Colangelo would help Sam Hinkie with.
And if you’re looking for a read into who has the last call on major decisions, Wojnarowski reports that it is in fact Colangelo. If you'll recall, Colangelo said the opposite at his introductory press conference:
"Ultimately, someone will make the call and Sam is in the position where he will make the call on the final decision. But that's after a lot of collaboration and discussion with us."
