On March 1, Sam Bradford signed a new two-year contract extension worth $36 million. The Eagles have already paid him $5.5 million of that, as in, it's already sitting in his bank account. A mere 55 days later, Bradford wants to be traded and doesn't intend on showing up for work, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN:
Bradford presumably is upset that the Eagles traded up to the No. 2 spot in the draft, and have already stated that they will be selecting a quarterback. In a press conference after the Eagles made that move, Eagles "GM" Howie Roseman stated that Bradford would be the starter, you know, as long as the rookie quarterback doesn't beat him out for the job.
A trade is not likely to happen unless the Eagles get something in return that they can't turn down. As noted above, they've already paid him $5.5 million, and they want him on the roster to stay competitive in 2016.
Clearly, his camp did not expect long-term, big money contract offers to come rolling in during free agency, or they wouldn't have signed a two-year deal that is structured more like a one-year deal before free agency even began.
It's hard to see how the Eagles' aggressiveness in trying to draft a quarterback could come as a surprise.
