Oh boy, this should be fun. According to ESPN’s Scott Burnside, the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins are going to play an outdoor game in Pittsburgh next year:
Although plans for next year’s Winter Classic remain fluid, what does seem to be virtually locked in is an outdoor game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers sometime in 2017.
The unresolved question is whether the game, likely to be held at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, will stand as the 2017 Winter Classic or part of the Stadium Series held a few weeks later, a source familiar with the proceedings told ESPN.com
From here, the ideal scenario would be to play a neutral site game at Beaver Stadium. According to Burnside, Penn State’s financial demands turned the teams off from staging a game in Happy Valley. The report stated that the sides now could be looking at a reciprocal arrangement, which would include an outdoor game between the teams in Philly in 2018.
A loud "Crosby sucks!" chant in Citizens Bank Park? Again, this should be fun.
