According to authorities, the father of the Westtown Township boy allegedly discovered evidence that his son was printing up fake "Notice of Infraction" letters from the West Chester Police Department and stuffing them in local mailboxes, 6ABC reports.
The notices, which included photographs of residents' vehicles and other identifying information, instructed locals to leave a cash payment for their $96 fines in the mailbox and send an email to confirm a pickup by March 26.
After making the discovery, the teen's father brought his son to the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police. The boy, who was not identified, is expected to be charged by the Chester County Juvenile Probation Department.
Authorities advised residents that despite the somewhat convincing likeness of the traffic letters, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police do not handle violations and payments in the manner seen in the scam.
