Redskins fan Dale Earnhardt Jr. 'sad' to drive car painted with Eagles colors at Pocono 400

NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn't happy that he'll be behind the wheel of a Chevy painted in Philadelphia Eagles green and black during an upcoming race.

Axalta, Earnhardt's sponsor, announced Wednesday that he would be driving the No. 88 car turned midnight green and featuring the Philadelphia Eagles' logo at the Pocono 400 in June.

The Eagles aren't exactly the team of Earnhardt's choice. A video the NASCAR driver posted on his Twitter account Wednesday explained fans how he really feels.

"I'm really sad about that being a [Washington] Redskins fan. It was very hard to wrap my brain around it," he said in the video.

Earnhardt said in the video that, while he didn't have any influence over the design of his car's paint job, he is happy to support the Eagles' and Axalta's All-Pro Teachers initiative, which recognizes "outstanding teachers in the tri-state area for their contribution to their students, school and community," according to its website

That didn't stop his fans from teasing the famous NASCAR driver.

"I hope that my Redskins pals, all the fandom that I'm a part of, I hope that you don't disown me," he said.

"I know it probably shocked a few of my fellow Redskins fans. Seems like it made some of the Eagles folks happy," he later added. "Interesting day."
