May is Lupus Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the mysterious autoimmune disease that has no known cause or cure. To support this month, the Lupus Foundation of America's Philadelphia tri-state chapter has arranged events around the region.
The World Lupus Day Rally will be held at LOVE Park Thursday, May 14 from noon to 2 p.m. The public is invited to join the free event, which will host live performances, and learn more about lupus. The LOVE Park fountain will turn purple, too!
Put On Purple Day is Friday, May 15 and acknowledges the use of purple in campaigning for lupus awareness. The public is encouraged to wear purple, as local monuments and buildings are lit with corresponding lights, to show support for those affected with the disease. Boathouse Row, the CIRA Center and The Pyramid Club will show their spirit with lights throughout the month.
The 7th Annual Walk to End Lupus Now, a 2K and 4K walk, will take place Sunday, May 17 at 10 a.m. along the Ocean City Boardwalk. The event will serve as both a rally to support those afflicted as well as raise funds for researching lupus.
