Protests against police brutality did not end with the indictment of the six officers connected with the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore.
They happened locally in Philadelphia Thursday night when a group protested around 11:30 p.m. near the 22nd police precinct at North 17th Street and West Montgomery Avenue, according to 6ABC news.
That protest took the form of a vigil. Candles were lit and the names of individuals killed by police were read, the television station said.
And in San Francisco, protesters sought to gain attention by appearing topless to highlight the females who have been hurt or killed by police.
One of protesters explained their reasoning, saying, “We wanted to be able to say ‘enough is enough’ and draw on traditions from Nigeria, Gabon, Uganda, and South Africa, from women who bare their chests and other parts of their bodies in protest,” Chinerye Tutashinda, one of the San Francisco protesters, told BuzzFeed.
BuzzFeed pegged the protests in San Francisco Thursday at about 300. They also referenced a report by the African American Policy Forum titled “Say Her Name,” which was focused on “resisting police brutality against black woman.”
In Philadelphia, the protest was organized by the Philadelphia Coalition for Real Justice and numbered in the “dozens,” according to 6ABC.
