Poll: N.J. residents split on allowing Syrian refugees to resettle in state

A recent poll found New Jersey residents are divided on whether Syrian refugees should be welcome to resettle in their home state.

The survey, conducted by Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University, found 45 percent of residents surveyed said they don't support refugees from Syria resettling in New Jersey while 45 percent would be OK with it.

The other 10 percent were unsure.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has stated publically that he is not in favor of allowing refugees to relocate in the Garden State, not even orphans under age 5.

Of the respondents who were against letting refugees in, a quarter said they'd make an exception for young orphans.

The poll included 843 adults reached by live callers between Nov. 30 and Dec. 6.
